Does the speed of the Apple factory installed SDD's compare well with aftermarket drives?





Does anyone know the make/model number of the 256gb SSD drive in the new macbook pro's?

    There have been benchmark comparisons made before. Apple use Samsung SSD drives. They don't match Intel's X-25M, which is still considered to be the best and OCZ's Vertex series come close to that but they are decent drives and they offer a good improvement over mechanical drives:

    Apple's SSD prices seem to be very competitive. Also, there have been a number of reports of 3rd party drive failures or slowdowns. I haven't seen any reports about Apple's stock SSDs failing.
