I have an older MBP (2.2Ghz, 2GB RAM, 120GB HD) and am having problems with PDF files. Well, I guess it would be better described as annoyances with PDF files. I use Adobe Reader and the lag when scrolling is unbearable. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Can anyone suggest alternate programs that may remedy my problem? Than you so much for any help offered.

Why don't you just use OSX's built-in Preview app

The only reason I use reader is because I annotate heavily my pdf files.

I tried that as well but the lag when scrolling is unbearable. I dont know what could be the problem. Do other people experience this on their MBP or MB?

Do you have it just with pdf's, or do you have scrolling lag in every application? Like Safari and all?

If it's everywhere, it's probably an issue with your graphics chip. (even if it's only a GMA950, PDFs should scroll without lag)

That depends on the PDF. Some of them contain, or are completely made up of, large, high resolution bitmaps. Those are going to scroll lag, even on a very fast Mac.

I mainly use Preview, if only because I like the way it filters text. But I've also installed the latest version of Adobe Reader -- the plugin for Safari is superior IMO to the native way Safari displays PDFs.

Best thing to do especially in your web browser, is, if you still install Adobe Acrobat, to disable the plug-in in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/. I just usually compress mine, and trash the original, that way I can use Apple's default PDF Viewer which doesn't crash.

    Laters...

So far I have never had Adobe's most recent plugin crash. Previous versions did. Apple's inline viewer is really awful, in at least one respect: saving PDFs. The way of doing this is non-obvious and doesn't always work. Adobe give you a button, which does work.
