Very confused at syncing iphone with multiple macs.....
Any help will be much appreciated...
It's not very helpful that I have added mobile me, that adds up to the confusion...
Let me give you some examples:
I stick my iphone to the powerbook where I don't have a proper itunes library set up, I go and check manually manage music and then it asks me, this is iphone is synced with an other library, do you want to delete files here? Of course I don't, that's why I picked manualy manage music, what's wrong here? And if it don't it to do it manually and just syc by itself will it copy the files I want from each library that I ve set to sync or will it just delete everytime it connects to a new library and resync...it's kinda confusing isn't it, at least to me.
My apps are in my other itunes library, if I sync with the powerbook will it delete all the apps or will it redownload them to the local itunes because I want neither, of course the later being the lesser of two evils.
In mobileme if I sync bookmarks from mac to me to iphone, will incorporate everything in every device or will it just delete say the iphone, when I try to set it up it asks me to enable merge for the other syncing services, but for bookmarks it only suggests delete or cancel, what?
I hope I am not tiring you guys...anyway...case in point...
Now trying to sync just bookmarks from the iphone to another mac (which I had synced with the iphone way back when...), if applications sync is selected it asks me if I want to remove certain apps when I sync, if I deselect sync apps it mentions it will remove all apps...isn't just an option to do nothing with the apps, not sync or unsync or anything, and just let me sync the bookmarks....

A good example is with the girlfriend and myself. I recently bought the TomTom App for my iPhone 3GS, on my computer. I would LOVE to let her put that App on her iPhone. However, she has shitty country music that I cannot tolerate, thus allowing her to only sync her iPhone to her computer for her music. (Thought bubble) Perhaps if I sign into her iTunes with my username then I might be able to get TomTom on her computer without changing her music....hmmm
If you connect your iPhone to another computer you can right click on it when it appears in the list on the left and then select "Transfer Purchases".
For music that have not been purchased thru iTunes(i.e. your personal CDs), then you might need to import them manually via CD, USB, DVD, etc...
I did transfer purchases and it worked quite well of course, no music tranfers. with one caveat, that I didn't take that bad as I expected something bad to happen...
syncing bookmarks DELETED all the bookmarks from the iphone...
thanks apple.
But still I find it very hard to believe you can't sync with more than one computer, what about authorise computer.
I just want an easy hassle free way to sync between my various macs and my iphone.
Am I asking for that much?
Hey guys, thanks a lot for the replies!!

It's probably because Apple either literally agreed to this with the RIAA and music labels back when it started iTunes, or it is afraid it will piss them off and cause labels to pull their stuff from the iTunes store. In other words, it may not be Apple's fault. Same reason you can't move music FROM an iPod TO a Mac.
Of course there are ways around both of this. Just search www.VersionTracker.com for utilities to import music back from iPods.
Gotta say though, I really believed AT&T bullied Apple into banning Google Voice. Turned out to be all Apple's fault. Maybe this iPod limitation could be Apple, too, so that they can trick some people into buying stuff twice. Don't know, but anyway like I said there are plenty of programs and ways get around both limitations.
I guess the only work around is if you keep your itunes libs synced across computers (or for that matter have a central home server), that would bypass the synced with other library issue wont it?
As for the google voice thing, I am of the same opinion, altough I think too much of a fuss is being made about it. It's kinda strange for google to talk about monopoly strategies when they are with m$ the biggest monopoly on the planet and there's not much left in the web they don't monopolize.

I don't think you're asking for much.. Guess Apple should be a genie which grants 300 wishes we want!

No. Myapplelove is NOT asking too much. Just fair use of what was rightfully bought or downloaded without restrictions if it wasn't copyrighted. It's the greedy music industry and movie industry that have locked Apple down, and Apple itself to a degree, in complying with them.
This is what I was referring to myapplelove...Tools to circumvent: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17443
(type in iPod and copying on versiontracker for more). (Oh, and remember, we never had this conversation. )
