Airport Express range worse than MacBook?

I recently got an Airport Extreme and an Airport Express because I was sick of dealing with networking issues caused by mixed manufacturers and low quality hardware. I got the Airport Express to put in my living room and hook up to a switch so that I can connect all my living room devices to the network. My MacBook connects to the Airport Extreme via the 5ghz band just fine from anywhere in my apartment. However, the Airport Extreme almost always drops down to the 2.5ghz band (as observed by the channel it is using and Airport Extreme's link indicator in the logs for it), even if it's closer than the MacBook. Has anyone else noticed the Airport Express being weaker than other products?

    Apparently not.



    Imo, the simplest test would be to try out another Airport Express, OR to switch both your current Airports around, and see how that performs.
