After proving himself on the toughest of seas and making the America's Cup New Zealand's cup, Sir Peter Blake's desire to save the planet has ended up costing him his life.



Police across Brazil are hunting for the band of killers who gunned him down while aboard his boat on the Amazon River.



The 53-year-old and his crew had not long dropped anchor near the town of Macapa after a two-month expedition up the Amazon.



As some of the crew slept, the armed pirates boarded and Sir Peter was felled in a hail of bullets
