Has anybody added copious amounts of DRAM on an SL upgrade?

Eventually I'll get another box to replace my Mac Mini in order to use SL because it only has a core duo 32-bit chip, but first I wanna know if the older Macs with 64-bit chips are accepting lots of new DRAM like the 8 gigabyte cards. If I can't use more memory... why upgrade?
