John Walker Lindh
What to do with John Walker Lindh?
President Bush called him a "poor fellow" and "misled".
Rumsfeld was a bit more cold on the issue.
(My favorite aspect of this is how it illustrates the impotency of the liberal "parent")

I really don't care what this drunken frat boy moron, who wasn't even properly elected president, has to say about anything, much less international politics.
As for Rumsfeld, he's a racist, Nazi son of a bitch that is the most un-American traitor to come down the pike in decades. Try HIS fascist ass for treason before you try my old friend John Lindh.
Questions about "my old friend?" See the threat elsewhere in this same area (I think it's titled "An American in the Taliban?") for slightly more details. I knew the guy, back in the mid-90s. It's interesting to see how the media and the general public are responding, in light of the fact that I have some historical background and semi-personal knowledge of the guy to go on.
Before we blindly echo criticisms and condemnations made by talking heads in the administration, we'd do well to evaluate said talking heads, and consider the source. I have no respect for these devils.

This has been the voice of common sense.

This guy may be one of the only rank and file Taliban to go to prison.
Ironically, most of the Taliban will probably simply be set free after the war, as usually happens with prisoners of war. Some of the leaders and the al Qaeda may be tried for crimes against humanity, but for the most part, they'll just go home.

It's looking like most of them are going to die.

depends on if he renounced his citizenship and when...
.
.
to the victors go the spoiles
Treason should be the charge, but he'll get off with a slap on the wrist. There will be sufficient whining and he may even sue the government for money. Just wait.

So? Your personal knowledge of him doesn't negate the fact that he was captured at Mazar-e-Sharif in common cause with Taliban fighters. I also suspect that you had even less idea as to what he'd been up to than did his parents. Did your personal knowledge give you ANY foreshadowing of what JWL has become?
It's certainly interesting that you once knew him but that doesn't put you in any better of a position to judge what he has done. And given your over-the-top judgements of Bush and Rumsfeld I'd say your judgement is extremely dubious.
But I have no respect for the entire administration anyway, so . . . (shrug).
As for the other stuff . . . blah, I'm too tired to care anymore. Which, if I were in a more conspiracy theory frame of mind, might cause me to add, " . . . which is just what they want!"
Blah.
