Is my mac 64 or 32 bit.. not a noob question..

I have a version 6.1 early 2007 imac with a 2.33 ghz intel core 2 duo processor. Now i know all Core 2 Duos are supposedly 64 bit but whenever i do the Terminal hardware checks or any 3rd party programs check if my processor is 32 or 64 bit i get the following information



ioreg -l -p IODeviceTree | grep firmware-abi

| | "firmware-abi" = <"EFI32">



This is telling me that the firmware is only 32 bit. I really dont understand as my mac has a core 2 duo processor.



Any help would be much appreciated.

    Your EFI is probably 32bit. Why does it even matter though? Unlike Windows, the Mac OS can address all the supported RAM levels on your machine, so you don't really "need" a 64bit version of the OS to see past 4GB. In Snow Leopard, 64bit apps can run just fine on your 32bit Kernel.

    Your processor is 64-bit capable but the software you're running is 32-bit. Even in Snow Leopard the kernel is 32-bit by default
