Just curious: how many of you...
...go to PC-oriented sites and act like dicks?
Is this a two-way phenomenon? Honest to God, I or nobody I know who is a Mac user has this weird burning desire to seek out PC-centric message boards and start up a bunch of crap by being a troll.
But it always happens here, MacNN, the old imac2day, etc.
Why is that?
Maybe it does go both ways and I just don't see it since I don't hang out in PC/Windows-based forums.
But the whole underlying psychology and mechanics of it. Are things that slow and uninteresting in your life that, despite all that's going on in the world, all there is to do in the way of recreation, the millions of OTHER sites you could visit on the Internet, etc. that some people actually wake up in the morning, head straight to a website that deals in a topic they a) know nothing about and b) have no real interest in and start stirring shit up.
It would be like me going to a geology-oriented website/message board and berating people for their choice in pick axes or ragging on a particular rock formation.
I know - or care - NOTHING about the topic, so why would I do that?
So why do people who use (and apparently like) PCs and Windows take time out of their day to come to a place where they know they're outnumbered and that nobody cares who they are or what they have to say.
A quick clarification: I'm not talking about members here in good standing who DO use PCs, but also contribute in meaningful, good ways. In other words, I'm not talking about groverat and others because I don't consider them trolls or one-trick ponies. They don't come here JUST to act like an idiot and piss people off.
Although, I guess some people might argue with that statement...
Just kidding!
I'm talking about the people who come here ONLY to wreak havoc, fire people up, cause arguments, waste space and time, etc.
And you know who you are, jackball.
Anyone have any special insight to this? Reasons? Thoughts?
Honestly, as a Mac user, it's never once crossed my mind to go to DellInsider.com's forums and rag on them or their choice in platform.
Why would I?
Just a personality thing I guess. Some people just have juvenile, annoying dickheaded behavior hard-wired into their genetic makeup?

But guess what? We're not talking about that here because this is my topic and this is a Mac-oriented board, so spare me the "just as many Mac users go to..." stuff because I don't really care.
I'm sure they do.
I'm talking in general about the phenomenon of someone taking time out of their day to insert themselves into a place they have to real interest or affinity for, JUST to be an asshead.
Regardless of platform.
Any of you Mac users engaging in this, I'd be curious to know why you do it too.
However, rarely do I find the need to spew crap. Erm, not rarely, never.
But I'm not going there to be an idiot and start up stuff. Sounds like you aren't either.
I'm talking about troll-ish behavior/tactics...going to PC sites for the SOLE PURPOSE of being a cretin.
Yes, it could simply be a numbers thing and there truly ARE more PC trolls than Mac ones. I buy that.
Still doesn't explain or address the actual process and desire to do what they do.
That's what I'm most curious and baffled about.

In my experience there are more PC trolls than Mac trolls, but I don't think this is explained by simple numbers (95 of them to every 5 of us). Some members of a dominant group will always get their kicks picking on the minority. I mean, it's not very often that you see a bunch of high school geeks picking on members of their school's football team.
It would be interesting to know what really makes a troll tick.

hee hee... we did back at my high school, but we (the geeks) were actually okay friends with some of the jocks; so, it wasn't really such a big deal.
No, I hang out on Ars as a PC guy. Why? Because I am now <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
I picked up a PC and found that Ars is a GREAT place for info. However they can often get far to rightwing on me, so I come back here (I used to think that this place was rightwing  )
Do they really think that'll make mac users take them seriously?
