Recently when I turn on my iMac, it automatically opens itunes. I do not know how to change the preferences so that this will not happen. Thank you for any advice.

System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items/highlight iTunes and hit the "-" button at the bottom of the pane.

...or right-click the iTunes icon in the Dock and uncheck Open at Login.

Yes, but that would waste an learning opportunity regarding Where Stuff Is.

You're crazy. Right click was the answer he was looking for.

I'll go a step further. LEFT-CLICK and hold the iTunes icon in the dock, then uncheck this option:

    Job done.

Sigh. Yes, I'm aware of the dock shortcut. My point is that if someone is asking about mysterious app launching at startup, there probably not aware of the login options listed in in the apps preference pain, not all of which are necessarily going to be things that appear in the dock. You know, the options that the dock shortcut is referencing.

It's a good thing to know about, and I happen to be of the school that the first time one deals with an area of the OS you should probably take a look around, to get a sense of how things are layed out.

And dude: "crazy"? "The answer he was looking for"? And just lately anyone who doesn't share your enthusiasm for OLED is a "fool"?

For someone with the worst prognostication track record on the board, you seem awfully full of yourself.

That's actually pretty useful. Good for users (novice and otherwise) to know multiple ways to do things. God knows that unless you buy a book or cruise websites and forums, you don't ever learn this stuff. Even as an 8-yr Mac moderate user, I still learn new stuff regularly.
