Using Spotlight

I am looking for a couple jpeg files on my mac. I know their specific titles. When I enter them into Spotlight or use the Apple-F key they do not show up.

WHY????? I thought Spotlight would instantly find any file.

Any help appreciated.

    A few possibilities:

1.) The files aren't actually called what you think they are.

2.) You (or someone else) deleted the files.

3.) You saved the files to areas of the HDD that spotlight doesn't usually search.

What version of OS X are you using?

I was under that impression as well. I have had similar frustrations with Spotlight. (OS 10.5.1 thru 10.5.8) I've all but given up on it. I do not save files that are not in the Documents folder or on the Desktop. It should be able to find any file under those condititons, but it doesn't.
