SD to Express Card Adapter??
Hey there, new to these forums!!
Just wanted to know if anyone has any insight on either SD card slot to Express Adapters? Or if there are any Firewire to Express card adapters??
I'm considering buying a new 15" Macbook Pro and unfortunately, they don't come with Express card slots, only SD slots.
Is there any firewire to express card reader / adapters....OR SD card slot to Express Card slot adapters available??
I've googled, and can't find anything.
Thanks in advance for your help!!

If you did have an Express Card slot, what would you want to put in it? I would have thought it's more likely to find a Firewire or USB alternative to whatever that might be, rather than a firewire to Express Card adaptor.
Perhaps i didn't word my question properly.
I'm looking at buying a Macbook Pro that will only have a SD card slot.
I'm wanting to know if there is any adaptor that would allow me to utilize my sd card slot in conjunction with an SXS or any Express/34 type cards.
I did google to try find any USB or Firewire alternates for enabling me to use Express/34 type media cards, but to no avail.
Any info on anything that would help enable me using SXS cards on a Macbook Pro that does NOT have an express/34 card slot, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, and hope that clarifies things a bit.

If you had an Express Card slot what would you want to put in it? Presumably, you'd like an Express Card slot because there's some card or other you'd like to put in the slot, rather than just bragging rights that you've got an Express Card slot.

OK, so you'd like to read SXS cards. Anything else? I googled SXS firewire reader and found a rather expensive USB 2.0 based reader.

OH i see, yes i didn't understand what you said.
Yeah, mainly i need to be able to injest video media off of SXS cards.
Thanks for the link. Yes that is CRAZY expensive. You'd think if they were going to make one, it would be (at the very least) with firewire 400 or better yet 800.
I really hope other manufacturer's jump on board to make these less of a 'specialty' item which will ultimately lower the price.

Well, that was just in the first page of hits. Maybe if you have a good Google session yourself you'll be able to find something cheaper.
Perhaps you can use a USB card reader for the SXS cards.
Yeah, it's just finding one that is the problem.
FIREWIRE would be more ideal as it's way faster, but ANY connectivity for Express Cards / SXS etc to connect computers without an Express/34 card slot is the whole point!
Why Why Why did Apple do away with the Express Card/34 slot on the new 15" MBP's....argh!!!

Because more people wanted an SD card reader. Express Card never really seemed to take off TBH, not many laptops have the slots, and for most things you can get much cheaper USB or Firewire alternatives (e.g. 3G modems, TV tuners).

Notice the ad says the RAW SDHC card is made in the USA but that does not mention the adapter. My observation would be that aparently the adapter is made 'offshore', same place for both the MxR and the Hoodman.
I wonder how many failures of Transcend or Sandisc are actually counterfit Transcend or Sandisc cards?..
You see, that's the stupid thing. Apple claims more people wanted an SD card slot. Then why not give us a fully functional SD card slot so that we can choose other connectivity options through an adapter? Or why not give us the Express Card slot and include an express card to SD card adapter in the package (a $5 part), even pre-installed?
Sorry, but the SD card slot in the MacBook Pro doesn't support SDIO. There's no way to connect anything other than flash media.

I wish we could use it as a poor man's SSD drive...and boot off it. We'd need that SDXC or whatever too. I assume it would need to be a faster reader as well than what Apple currently has. Then, we could boot off a big SD card and store apps on it. Because I assume the fastest SD cards are faster than HDDs by now?. Because I bet the next MBP will still have that optical drive. I've been converted so to speak and now I wish they'd kill the optical or at least allow us to put a second drive (SSD for example) in their in lieu of the optical. But if we can't do that the SD slot could potentially work, with the aforementioned upgrades.

Well, not just that, but the SD card slot in the MacBook Pro makes the card stick out a good 0.5". You can't just stick it in there and use it as storage without it sticking out like a dongle on the side. If you want it to be fully contained, you have to buy an RS-MMS card, which is pretty much a discontinued item, and therefore only available in a very slow 2GB capacity.
