Great month

I am having a great month.

1) Went away for New Years to a small in near the Mississippi. Had a nice time. Met some nice people.

2) Set up 4 interviews in three days from the cover letters I sent out before Christmas. Top places in the country IMO. I had one message that was ?we want to see you on the 14th call to confirm.?

3) Got changes to my dissertation back from the toughest member of my committee. Nothing major at all. Smooth sailing for me.

4) Found a lost cat during Thanksgiving. Fed him for a day or two and then got the "AVID" number and called them. Got the run around and lost track of the cat. He was living in the laundry room. Saw him three weeks ago and couldn't catch him. Came home to find a woman trying to get him. Long story short I dropped him off at Chicago's 24 hour animal shelter. He's hungry, hurt and tired. They'll call the owners in the morning based on the ID number. I'm a cat hero.

I got to go buy a lottery ticket.

Here's a picture of the cat I found. Look at how dirty he is. I wonder if he's been lost for months and months?

    Way to go!

Will the owners be able to get in touch with you? If I were you talking to them I would be all "Oh it was nothing" but inside feeling like the coolest guy in the world!

And I had the impression from that OSX vid-card drivers thread (among others) you were a big grouch all the time!

    Jeff

Naw. They didn't take my info at the shelter. Just the address. I even asked if I could call about her, the cat's a she, and they said they had way to many animals to keep track of the status of any one for people who just call up. I'm guessing they don't have a computer system for that.

I felt bad becaus I didn't take her in weeks ago. Looked all over for lost cat posters. It's been cold and ....

We have a cat my girlfriend took in 10 years ago now. She lost a tooth last weekend

(The cat lost a tooth, not my girlfriend)

Wow, great stuff!! Speaking as a fellow job-hunter, I have to ask, any advice or tips? What's really pissing me off is that I am applying for jobs that I fully qualify for, and I'm not even getting a call for the interview!

Animal control just called me. I left a message with them before I found out they have 24hour drop off. The woman was not happy. Turns out the kat lives on my block! It looks and acts like a stray. It's dirty and smelly and has a scrape on its leg. Maybe it's sick? If that then why let it out or let get out? Why was it hiding in my laundry room for 4 days some weeks ago?

This woman is "on the case". She's going to find out what's going on with the owner.

    Great month update.

3 interviews down one to go. Dissertation defense on the 31st is looking good. One Prof' is having trouble thinking my standard deviations are standard errors. The hard part is that I'm 90% sure he's wrong. What to do what to do?

Um, how 'bout what you usually do here? Tell him he's wrong and call him a rude name.

Seriously, though, I'm happy to hear things are going so well for you... though I seem to have inherited the bad luck you've lost... <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

Well I did wipe out on my bike twice on some ice and had two notebook computers go bad on me. So...

Oh here's one. Wiped on my bike and found out when I got home that my lock must have fallen out. Go back to look for it and it's gone. Next day Kytronite sends a new replacement for a lock that sent back as defective. It has a special cool new key with a little led light in it.

    Where's them lotto tickets.

I talked to him yesterday and ... he was right. He's always right. When he's wrong he knows it and corrects himself and tells you why he was wrong and how not to make the same mistake.
