You still can't have 10.6.2 open all .mov files in QUICKTIME PRO.. the change all still reverts back to QT (amateur/useless/covers up vital image area) X.
Just an FYI for the professional users other there!
If QuickTime Player is so useless have you tried deleting it (or at least compressing and saving). This should force them to open in QT Pro if you have it.

I tried to do what you suggested since long, but with no results. What happens when you delete QTX is that you still cant use QT7 to view your contents. I had to use VLC. So, I restored the QTX.
QTX is an awful piece of software. It doesn't even have AV controls. I was expecting Apple to revamp it in 10.6.2, but alas....
