Activity Monitor Dock Icon with QC i7 iMac: Only get one CPU bar...

I leave the Acitvity Monitor running all the time with my CPU Usage as the dock icon. I like to see the cores working away. On my Quad MacPro at work I have four blue bars, on my old iMac C2D, MacBook etc. I have two bars.

On my new i7 QC iMac I am only getting one bar. Any body have any thoughts on why this is? Has Apple changed the way the icon shows cores?

Here is a link to a photo of my current dock on my i7.

Try Activity Monitor View Menu > Dock Icon and select CPU History and see what you get.

Maybe with it being hyper-threaded, showing 8 bars side-by-side would be too much so they joined them into one.

Yep. The option "Join" seems turned on.

You may choose to experiment with various requests to display and preferences of Activity Monitor; it's quite probable this option is hidden. It may as well be unavailable at all.

Personally, I use iStat menubar indicators which are far more informative and configurable. And less resource-consuming, too.

P.S. Joyfully, have finally dragged out and annihilated useless native Apple's date/time menu bar item and replaced it with the iStat's thing, which is really worth being put onto menu bar.
