Kernel Panic on startup everytime, safe boot ok, QC i7 iMac
Any idea what is going on? i have deleted all startup items and this thing boots in Safe Mode fine.
I booted into SU mode and ran fsck and everything was "ok."
I have made no hardware changes to this system and it is only two days old.
Help? I am about to just erase and install from scratch and see what happens.

Did you by any chance install Temperature Monitor from Bresink software?

What is your situation now -- problem fixed?
I have since copied over my files from my SuperDuper backup and everything seems fine with the new installation. I don't ever remembering installing the hardware temp program. I do use iStat widget and server (with iPhone too) but past that nothing. I did a clean install with Snow Leopard as well on my previous iMac from which I migrated the data from (this was voluntary and only on my iMac because I had a problem left over from when it was attached to a Leopard Server network). So I am just doing it again with my new QC. So, I am really confused what is going on but don't care too much now since I am about 85% complete moving everything over and getting my settings straightened out.
Thanks for the help but I still don't know what the deal was. I have one last program to install that could be the offender but it has worked on all other machines so I doubt that is it. I guess we will never know at this point.

Not knowing a whole lot about this software, I'd theorize that it tries to directly access the temperature reporting registers in the processor, and since the i5 and i7 processors are new to Mac computers, it makes sense that older software which tries to go there could run into a low-level error.
Your panic log certainly indicated that this software was installed (or I suppose other software that used the same extension?) and was the one causing the panic. Not sure how you can disable a kernel extension except by booting in Safe Mode or by removing it. Since you could boot in Safe Mode, the cause of the panic seems even more likely to be this extension.

It's just an educated guess. It was the last extension called out in the panic log, which I believe means it was the last thing OSX tried to load before it took a powder. Maybe one of our resident techies can confirm my diagnoses.

Yeah, I found that out too. I don't remember installing it.
A few upsides to this total loss.
Somehow, I have 150 GB of extra space. I have no idea where it went because everything I had, I have. I'll hold on to my back up a while longer to make sure. In the mean time, I have pulled out a Lacie 1TB drive FW800 to do my SuperDuper backup. Man, this thing is slow. I don't know what Lacie's problems are because I have had their drives fail more often than any other driver I have used, but this is nuts.
Why that is good? Time Machine will allow me to use my Time Capsule (1 TB) again to use as a TM backup.
We may never know the cause, but at least you're in business again.

I can confirm removing Temperature Monitor from Bresink software did the trick.
I upgraded from a Core 2 Duo to an i7 and imported all applications. Thanks to this thread I still have som hair left.
