ok here goes...

I have an external drive that is half full. It was formatted for fat32, so I could use it with my mac however, when plugged into my pc something was compromised and now my mac won't recognize it. WTF?? I understand to reformat it through disk utilities, but I would like to keep the data existing. What are my options??

My recommendation is to format as HFS+ and use MacDrive on the Windows machine. It worked very well for me until I tossed my last custom PC in the closet.

Sounds like the easiest way would be to plug it back into the PC (assuming that still recognizes it) and backup the data you want to keep.

THEN you can re-formatt as you desire and put the data back on it.
