Jesus H. Christ
So I open my mail today and unsolicited I receive a prayer book thingy from United Prison Ministries International. This prayer book is so revolting they actually have the gall to use the whole 9/11 thing to grub for money.
Now this really pisses me off and not just because they are low enough to use that tragedy for their own means. What right do they have to send this kind of material to my house? What if I had kids that could be exposed to this stuff? Why do I get assaulted by some freak at least once a week trying to hand me a religous pamphlet?

Homer!
I usually get a alot of junk mail a day...
I started doing this after I heard about this guy who did the same and heated his house thru-out the winter off free rolled up junk mail... saved him a bundle
I bought a iron paper log roller and use it about once every other day to heat my house at night and on some really cold days too...
Sometimes I get more than I need, but I figure its better that way... becuase at least I recycle... otherwise it will most likely end up in a landfill...

I always wondered (I'm not a religious man), what does the H. in "Jesus H. Christ" stand for?
Homer!

Heheh. Can't you just see it now...Christ returns one day and upon seeing how happy Homer makes people, he starts going "DOH!" when he sees someone or something he doesn't like - with a perfect Homer voice.
Anyway, I'm guessing it stands for "Holy".
So do the girl scouts. And people asking me to vote for Mr. Burns for Mayor. An Jehovah's Witnesses. And Mormons. And people looking for their lost dog. As long as they're not BREAKING IN to your house, they are all protected under the law (unless you have easily seen signs restricting people from tresspassing on your property).

What about the basic right of privacy of the individual and his/her home? Seems like a lack of respect to me if someone "invites" themself onto your doorstep to interupt your time to give you their veiw, sales pitch, etc. What happened to good old fashioned respect for privacy?

There is a little sign you can buy for about 50 cents that says "No Solicitors" on it. Well worth the money if you cannot stand people knocking on your door to sell you stuff. Otherwise, travelling sales people are not as frequent as they used to be. They usually call first and setup an appointment. Now on the phone solicitors... Grrrrrrrrr.... Thank God for call screening.

I don't think it necessarily means anything. Its just a way of getting around "taking the lords name in vein". That way you're really not "cursing" because you said Jesus H Christ, instead of just "Jesus Christ!". Get it?
Like instead of saying dammit you say darn diddilly do darn dang didilly iddilly
"Help me Jebus!!!"
if you don't like it, just chunk it. That's what i do with the scads of flyers for gay porn that I get, thanks to my apartment's former tenant. Now there was a surprise the first time I opened up that envelope!
Its easy, mmmkay!

I don't think privacy, in general, is a 'Right" as we think of "Rights" as in the Bill of Rights.
Actually I think the "Right to Privacy" is a fairly modern invention. It's interesting to think about it that way - especially in a day and age where there are video cameras in many, if not most, public gathering areas ie. airports, stores, restaraunts, stadiums, etc.
Privacy isn't really a clearly defined Right, that I know of, but more an expected privilege.
I mean, you have the right to close your curtains in your home. And a person doesn't have the right to spy on you through an open window with a telescope, but do you really have a "Right" to keep a person, standing behind you on a subway train, from looking over your shoulder while you read a letter? What about a newspaper? There is a social norm not to read a personal letter from someone else, but how would you know its personal without looking at it?
I dunno - no concrete answers from me. Just some thoughts on the idea of having a "Right to Privacy".

Holy I guess. You got spam...holy spam.
Remember, Jesus loves you...
Or, you could put a chalk outline of a human body on your front porch, add a big red stain, and spread around some issues of Watchtower magazine....
Yeah, I'm sure this is exactly what you do...
