MacBook Pro Headphone Jack

I have been having some problems with the headphone jack on my 13.3" Macbook Pro. A few weeks ago I plugged my headphones into the headphone jack and the sound still kept coming from the speakers in the computer. I found that I can get the headphones to work if I put my computer to sleep and wake it up with the headphones plugged in. However the next time I plug in the headphones with the computer on, it does the same thing. Restarting my computer helps for a few days but then it starts in again.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Does anyone know how to fix it?

Do you think it is hardware or is it software?

    this sounds silly but have you tried other headphones? had the same problem with my blackberry and my bose headphones, then one day tried my brother's ipod headphones and worked fine, the issue was with the specific headphone, didnt solve my problem but found a way around it, and no the bose werent ruined because i use them with everyother electronic device i own except that phone

    so try other headphones
