New iMac - can you remove the stand

Is it possible to remove the display stand from the new iMac, if so how, is special equipment required.

Yes, you can remove the stand. Apple sells a VESA mount kit separately, and to attach the VESA mount, you first remove the iMac stand. I don't know the exact procedure.

Apple sells VESA mounts for the 27" and the old 24" iMacs.
The old 20" and 21.5" do not have VESA mount kits.

Yes, you can remove the stand. Apple sells a VESA mount kit separately, and to attach the VESA mount, you first remove the iMac stand. I don't know the exact procedure.
The old 20" and 21.5" do not have VESA mount kits.
