iPad WiFi & 3G data plan... question

If you get an iPad with the 3G option could you use it without the 3G data plan until you are traveling or need it? I'm almost always in WiFi areas, but would want the option to add 3G later. So, would the 3G model HAVE to hava a data plan as our iPhones do? confused...

    From what I understand, the WiFi/3G models can use either. There is no plan, as you can buy a month at a time- probably through iTunes, while using the device. No contract.

    I thought it was made quite obvious in the presentation. You pay extra (to Apple) for hardware with a 3G radio... but you only pay the monthly charge (to ATT) if you want to.



    I guess I fail to see why you WOULDN'T buy the 3G version... if you can't afford the extra $130, you probably shouldn't be buying that toy anyway.
