Mailing lithium-polymer battery

Help please. I have a new MacBook Pro with the 95-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery. I tried to mail it to a friend via the US Postal Service and was told that I could not mail it in the US Post because it would be flown on passenger airlines. Now, I can carry the dang thing on an airline with me, but for some reason they say I cannot mail it. Can anyone help with this?? Thanks.

You could ship it without the battery and send them money to get a new one from a local store or eBay. Presumably eBay sellers must be sending using the same delivery options so maybe there's a way round it.
