Looks like the iPhone will be facing more "competition" from Palm

I saw this over on Precentral. It seems Palm's idea of competing is to steal Apple's stuff. We saw it in various elements of the Pre. We saw it in the iTunes hijacking of 09". We saw it in the specific implementation of video editing. Now, we see it in their app catalogue. Since they can't get developers to write apps for their platform, they are making tools for porting iPhone apps. They are not offering a competing app platform; they are trying to offer the same platform. Tell me, can Apple hang on to any competitive advantage?

I don't really hate too many companies in this industry as I love tech. But I really hate Palm. I will be so glad when they are finally dead. At this point, they contribute nothing to the industry. It is time for their parasitic life to come to an end.

This doesn't seem to be like anything unusual. It's just a C/C++ porting kit. Most games are written C/C++, and it's good for Palm to do this. For apps written largely with Cocoa Touch, they basically have no hope to make that easy. Absent iPhone, they would have had to do it anyway. There is basically no way developers were going to convert the gazillions of games out there to HTML/CSS/Javascript.

The Pre and Pixi have the wrong form factors to make a "good" games or app device though. They are portrait oriented form factors and they aren't that suitable for gaming except for arcade games of yore.

Palm is using the underdog marketing handbook though. They are desperately trying to get Apple to acknowledge them. Hence, Apple should never mention them.
