iMovie files won't open on a different Mac

I transferred a file from my iMovie 09 folder and saved on a flash drive to open it up on a different Mac to edit it. However it wouldn't open up.. I tried opening from the stick on the originating computer and it opened, but when I tried on the other Mac, it wouldn't open.

What am I doing wrong?

Likely a version difference between the two programs or a Quicktime version issue is my guestimate.

Do a "About...xxxx" from the program menu to see the version number.

Also check About Quicktime in your System Preferences.

Another possibility is that the file you transferred was just a reference .mov file. Reference .mov files work a bit like an alias in that they don't contain any of the actual information themselves, just point to where the info is.

What's the name of the file, how big is it (data size) and what's the duration of the media it contains?
