Does Apple's quality control 'grade' products?

Like it's done with eggs... grade A, grade B, grade C...etc..

And diamonds...

I'm simply curious

I've just gotten myself an iPod touch a week ago, for testing purposes, when i do not have access to co-worker's iPhone. I didn't want to have to depend on him anyway

I picked one up at Costco, since i was also getting groceries, and Costco usually has good deals on everything.

But now i'm wondering as to how they get the markdowns in place \

It's looked flawless and impressively thin, but as i was using it to read the news in bed last night, i noticed that the rubber seal around the screen glass lets out a sliver of light on the left side.

This morning i decided to take a closer look at it, and realized that on the right side, opposite of the barely-noticeable gap, the rubber seal is barely visible(!!!), and the inner edge of the metal housing has been slightly mangled... It did not look as clean as if it was just cut and formed with the die. But rather like the guy installing the screen has had to pry the screen out before putting it in again.

Although the metal defect is not visible unless you look diagonal or almost parallel to the screen.

I'm now wondering, if this is a machine that didn't boot or was found to have dead pixels, and has been sent back for repairs after QC was done with it....

Any other thoughts on what might've happended?

Dan

P.S. I don't really care, i like it anyway

    Yea,

    I would assume so.

Which is why I asked. I have a suspicion that all the perfectly flawless units go to the Apple store and their website.

All the other units they quietly hand off to be sold at a discount.

Sounds like a face-saving move to me

It's fine, I'm not arguing against it. I just wanted to see if anyone has seen the same thing
