    $160 is usually too much to leave out. He won't take it. If he senses that you're suspicious, he on't take anything.



    Don't play games. Just find out. He'll probably deny it, but then you can give him the evil eye. Or you can blackmail him: Say "I know you took the money, so give it back or I will smear your reputation."



    In a few short months you're almost guaranteed never to see him again.

    I think playing games with leaving money out and seeing if he'll take it is just wrong if you're pretty sure he was the one. Confront him. Baiting him will just introduce other problems. Tell him the deal and he either fesses up and you can decide to forgive him or forget him or he denies it and you can just say it's the best $40 you ever spent.
