Is it normal for online retailers to have limited selection of models?

I'm going to be buying my first Mac soon, an i5 17" MBP w/ antiglare screen, no other upgrades for now. Going to put an Intel SSD in it once I've run it for a week and made sure everything's ok.

It seems like most retailers don't have this option at a reduced price like they do with other options. It's only a $50 upgrade at Apple, but it ends up being more than that compared to the reduced prices for "stock" machines at many online retailers.

Is it normal for options to not be readily available at reduced prices? Or is it because the i5 17" MBP is so new of a model?
