Adding Memory to MPB for FCP

Hey Eveyrone - We've recently purchased 2 of the latest 17" Macbook Pros with 4GB of Memory. The MBP's will be used primarily for Video Editing in FCP, so we're interested in upgrading our memory.

Question...If we buy a 4GB stick and replace one of our 2GB sticks to take us to a total of 6GB, do we need to worry about not having matched pairs? How much better off would we be, by just purchasing 2 paired 4GB sticks? Again, our primary use will be in FCP.

Thanks in advance!

Aloha -

The unit will work with unmatched pairs, but the dual-channel capability that allows synergy between matched pairs will be lost. Consider which you value more - memory amount or memory speed.

Numerous test show that the gains are less than 10% under ideal circumstances... matched pairs are ideal but really not necessary. Check eshop.macsales.com for the tests.

Thanks for your time and input Karelia. Looks like I'll be ordering 2 pairs!
