DVI to Component adapters

I have a mini DVI to DVI adapter. Can I use a DVI to Component adapter? and which DVI connecter should I use.(DVI, DVI -1, DVI-D etc) I have a DVI to S-Video & Analog Video(Yellow) but that
severely limits my resolution,etc.. Thanks for any info or experience.
