Formating a hdd from a pc

Hello, I am new here and also a mac newbie. I am going to buy a macbook that does not come with a hard drive. Is there any way to pre format a hard drive on a windows pc and bring it with me to test the macbook before I buy it?

I will buy an os disc to bring with me as well, but I don't know how long the install time is. The seller probably wouldn't want to wait for hours for it all to finish.

Thank you in advance.

GParted is a linux boot disk that has the software to partition disks with GPT and HFS+ volumes. I have never used the GPT or HFS+ parts of this, but use it to partition disks for Windows all the time.

But that is only going to format the drive, which would only take a minute or so. Installing a system image is still going to take 45 minutes if you are going the install route. If you don't have access to a Mac prior to that, then there are not really any other options.
