Non iBook ePubs

Our iBook store in Canada sucks. Do to Copyright laws many of the books I would want are unavailable. If I purchase ePub based books from a source other than Apple can I sync them to iTunes and then to an iPad?

    Only if they are NOT restricted by DRM. Any non-DRM ePub can be used with iBooks, but if it contains non-Apple DRM, then iBooks won't be able to read it.
