hi there,

i just recently started using my MacBook again after about a year, and i am trying to run the software updates and when i chose all the updates and it goes to the screen where it asked "restart now" or "later" i chose now and the install begins.

It freezes up at the configuring and won't go past about 3-5% and stays there until i force restart the computer.

Does anyone know why this might be happening and how i can complete the install and updates?

Thanks

Get out your MacBook installer disk #1 and insert into the machine, hold c and reboot until booted off the disk, it will be slower than normal.

Now you can go through a few menus until you get to the menu option at top to launch Disk Utlility and Repair Disk/Permisisons.

You might be possible to transfer files to a external USB or hard drive.

Then you can quit and in the installer just replace OS X, called a Archive and Install. It will get rid of the funcked up OS X and replace it with a new copy.

Then reboot normally and check it out. Next time download everything first via Software Update then run it. Update Menu>Download only. Or try Apple for the combo update.

It's most likely corrupt updates. Boot the machine normally, go to Macintosh HD/Library/Updates/, and delete everything out of that folder. Run Software Update again after that. It will have to download the updates again, but you should get a complete update procedure this time.
