Has the whole government resigned or just the Prime Minister?

I saw that on the news last night. I thought it was odd when they said the government resigned. Maybe the whole administration?

It is the whole cabinet. All I can say about this one is:

    "Biggest Resignation Ever".

It's symbolic, elections are upcoming very soon.

They're essentially starting their vacations early and will use their moral act to get themselves reelected a month from now.

Actually its very common in Europe to resign on issues like that. In 92 our government resigned when it became clear that it had slowed down the handling of reunion of a number of Tamil refugees with their families deliberatly. Actually it was only the minister of justice that had done anything wrong but also the prime took the consequence and resigned and with him all ministers.

It took them nine years to seize the power again...

It's true that the election is upcoming. But when you as a government resign and admit that it were their fault, then you don't expect to be reelected.

They have practially admitted that they were responsible to the death of 8000 people. Try to be reelected after that <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
