Well, it was gonna be free but we thought it might be easier if I gave the guy ten bucks. So it's practically free.



And I had to pay $125 so it could get a ride to my house on a flatbed truck.



Still, I love these Datsun Z cars. I'll fix it up but it'll take a while. It's been sitting for about 5 years. The engine turns, but I'm gonna drain the gas tank, fuel lines, clean the injectors etc. before I try to start it.



Oh well, check it out. If you don't see me around much, you'll know why.

You do know why Nissan changed its name, right?



Let's just say its lucky for them that Lemon Laws weren't enacted until after the last Datsuns rolled off of the assembly lines. I hope it runs for you.

Nissan didn't change their name. They were the parent company of Datsun. My valve cover says Nissan, my seatbelts say Nissan, the fuel injection system is Bosch...



540,000 of those cars were sold.



What lemon law issues? They certainly have a tendency to rust but they're pretty mechanically sound. More reliable than most American cars made at the time.

nissan started over here under the name Datsun because they werent sure how successful theyd be in the states. if something went wrong, they could always start over as "nissan" without any negative association (similar to the problem that hyundai is having now to improve theyre pathetic image). but since everything went smoothly, they decided to just let the nissan name take over.

I almost bought a Z car once. It was kind of in rough shape too. I ended up getting an RX-7 instead. It didn't need any work but that wasn't what sold me on the RX. The whole rotary thing was just too cool.



Another nice Datsun was <a href="http://www.datsuns.com/"; target="_blank">the 510</a>. They were considered to be BMW killers. I guess that would have been back in the early '70s. Anyway, I like cars like that - a wolf in sheep's clothing.
