iPhone 4 no data plan GPS ?

I can get a basic mobile phone contract for the iPhone 4 in Canada. Even a pay as you go plan.

Been wondering if the GPS function is of any use without the data plan ?

I expect this would be similar to using iPhone's GPS when out of range of a carrier.

    The GPS will still work, but ..., you'll need data to use the included Maps... if you buy a mapping program, you'd want to make sure it is "self-contained". WiFi would work, but... if you're using the maps/moving it'd be hard to stay in range



    It will still geo-tag photos without data.



    The GPS works without data, but I can't think of any apps (other than "Camera") that utilize the GPS without also needing data access.
