Unfortunately the show is being cancelled after 5 years on abc. It has about 6 weeks left. Even though this quote from last friday isn't Bill Maher's last hurrah, it's a great hurrah indeed.

Folks, let me sum it up for you.

I think religion is bad and drugs are good.

I think America causes cancer, longevity is less important than fun, and young people should be discouraged from voting.

I think stereotypes are true, abstinence is a perversion, Bush's lies are worse than Clinton's, and there is nothing sexy about being old or pregnant.

I think September 11th changed nothing, and if I had known the onset of war would add 100 points to George Bush's IQ, I would have started one.

I think pornography stops rape, I think AIDS ribbons are stupid and flag burning makes me feel patriotic.

I think death is not the worse thing that can happen to you, I think people have too much self-esteem, and being drunk is funny.

I think children are not innocent, God doesn't write books, and Jesus wasn't a Republican.

I am for mad cow disease and against suing tobacco companies.

I think girls hate each other, "No" doesn't always mean "No," you have to lie to stay married, women's sports are boring, and the Olympics are gay.

I agree. Discuss.

It all seems consistent with Maher, but it just sounds to me like one of those "George Carlin" mass e-mails that goes around every so often, but really wasn't George Carlin.

    Was this really Bill Maher?

Unfortunately they are not cancelling Bill Mahers citizenship to the US and sending him to Antartica. He was nothing more than a blip in television history. If he wasn't so unfunny the show could have maybe lasted a bit longer.

    Not.
Folks, let me sum it up for you.

All religion and all drugs? How bad and how good? Who is hurt by religion and who is helped by drugs? Vice Versa? This statement is self-defeating.
I think America causes cancer, longevity is less important than fun, and young people should be discouraged from voting.

I think laboratory research causes cancer in lab animals. Trying to live forever on earth is a silly thing, waste of time actually. Young people should be encouraged to vote responsibly, and only after learning enough about what they are voting for so as to make an informed decision. How else are they to learn?
I think stereotypes are true, abstinence is a perversion, Bush's lies are worse than Clinton's, and there is nothing sexy about being old or pregnant.

As are all generalities? How so? You have yet to hear of all the lies of either, this falls under all generalities. In your opinion.
I think September 11th changed nothing, and if I had known the onset of war would add 100 points to George Bush's IQ, I would have started one.

9-11 changed many things, but not as much as some would lead you to believe. What a stupid statement overall.
I think pornography stops rape, I think AIDS ribbons are stupid and flag burning makes me feel patriotic.

I think pornography does nothing about rape, no decrease or increase, if anything it sustains it. AIDS ribbons are worthless now, overused and meaningless. What flags, burned where, for what reason?
I think death is not the worse thing that can happen to you, I think people have too much self-esteem, and being drunk is funny.

I agree, I agree, and people can be funny when drunk, but being drunk itself is not funny.
I think children are not innocent, God doesn't write books, and Jesus wasn't a Republican.

I disagree, I agree  (he inspires them, he does not write them out by himself), I agree.
I am for mad cow disease and against suing tobacco companies.

    Why? Ok.
I think girls hate each other, "No" doesn't always mean "No," you have to lie to stay married, women's sports are boring, and the Olympics are gay.

So? True. Not true, but it helps. I agree. The olympics are boring and this last round showed what little purpose they actually serve.
I agree. Discuss.

Just a blanket agreement? Boy are you easy to impress.

Shouldn't even be mentioned in the same paragraph as Carlin, let alone the same sentence, phrase or breath.

Maher is bitter, worn-down and clearly out of useful things to say.

Yes. This was from last friday's show. I'll link to the transcript.

I guess you have to watch the show to understand all of it.

No, it didn't. Bush had an opportunity to tell us to make sacrifices, get us off foreign oil, you know, do something that matters. Instead, he tells us to go shopping. It's back to business as usual. The only thing 9/11 did was turn the masses into "do-nothing patriots." Putting a flag on your gas guzzling SUV is NOT patriotic. It's stupid. You haven't done anything. Buy a hybrid honda civic and put a flag on it...well, now that's a step in the right direction.

Bill Maher as a guy is okay. I don't dislike him and I do think he was misunderstood and misquoted.

But the show was a tad lame.

Well, goof ball may describe one of us *cough not me cough*, but...

You're right, we do cancel each other out. I'm honest and a realist. He claims the moral high ground will slinging muck with the rest of us and lives in a fantasy world. Ya, I guess that cancels out.

Now, explain to me WHY you think I'm deluded for sharing many of the views I originally quoted.

[sarcasm]Yes, because dissent and asking questions in a freaking democracy is intolerable behavior.[/sarcasm]

    Fleischer is a joke.

More importantly, he's neither funny nor entertaining in any way whatsoever. And when did BM ever have anything useful to say?

Caught his show once when it was on Comedy Central. Back then I thought he had some potential. But his show on ABC just sucked.

Hmm...let me redirect this thread back to where it was supposed to go. I'm not asking you to discuss bill maher. I'm asking you to discuss the statements he made. Can you try that?

Gee, sorry, no. I mean, it's not that I can't try that. It's just that I'm not particularly concerned about making you happy.

lol. You aren't particularly concerned about appearing intelligent either. Although, a concentrated effort on your behalf probably wouldn't help very much. Proceed with your inane ramblings.

OK, if anyone cares. I disagree with the following statements:

"drugs are good:" I assume he means illegal psychoactive drugs, and they do more harm than good. I learned from experience.

"America causes cancer:" There's a myth that there's more and more cancer in the US that I think he's referring to. But it really is a myth. The vast majority of cancers are caused by smoking, and the increase in smoking over the 1900s can account for almost 100% of the rise in cancer deaths. Deaths from most other cancers have been on the decrease.

"young people should be discouraged from voting:" I know I've heard him say that voters are too dumb and that they should be given tests to determine if they're smart enough. Really, really bad idea.

"pornography stops rape:" this is the catharsis hypothesis - that if you watch sex or violence, you're less likely to act it out - and is not only just against common sense, it has been conclusively disproven.

"I am for mad cow disease:" I know he's a big animal rights activist, which I think is highly misguided.

    I agree with the following:

"longevity is less important than fun:" Yes, quality of life rather than prolonging it at all costs.

"stereotypes are true:" Yes, I hate this idea that all stereotypes are bad. Generalizations are a normal part of human thought. Racism is bad, stereotyping is normal.

"the onset of war would add 100 points to George Bush's IQ:" The press rallying around Bush is pathetic. 9/11 was the best thing to happen to Bush politically, and it's pretty sickening how he's milked it and the press have followed right along.

"AIDS ribbons are stupid" What? They don't cure AIDS? They're only to make actors feel good about themselves?

"people have too much self-esteem:" My favorite. Self-esteem is like sugar: It feels good to get it, but too much is bad for you.

"women's sports are boring:" I do like women's tennis, but women's basketball? Sorry, it's like watching my high school team. :looks to make sure wife isn't watching:
