USB Audio in iPhone 4.2?

Support for CoreMIDI

The first beta of iOS 4.2 adds support for the CoreMIDI framework to the operating system's application program interfaces. This could suggest that future applications would allow new avenues for musical creation, and could also allow physical MIDI instruments connectors.

MIDI, or Musical Instrument Digital Interface, is an industry standard that allows electronic music machines to synchronize and communicate. With an adapter, a device like an iPhone could theoretically create and record sounds from a MIDI instrument
.

How about USB Audio In/Out through the USB Camera Connection Kit? It works beautifully in the iPad, but the iPhone 4 with 4.1 still refuses to work with it. Any 4.2 beta tester can try it out?

USB Audio is a must for musicians and journalists.

Thanks!

Explain. What does the camera connector enable you to do with the iPad? What Type of in/Out are you doing?

The USB dongle from the Camera Connection Kit is also a USB Audio Class interface in the iPad.

You can use any pro USB microphone for absolutely professional recordings with almost any of the many recording apps available at the App Store.

The iPhone 4 does not accept line-in or external microphones (like this) through the dock connector, and the USB dongle from the iPad Camera Connection Kit appears as "not compatible" when you try.

I'm hoping 4.2 update will take care of this now that MIDI implementation is all but confirmed. There's currently no way to record pro audio into the iPhone 4. At least the 3G and 3GS could be used with the Blue Mikey with great results.

I'm guessing Apple will bring that functionality with 4.2.0 or with OS 5 at least if they want to push their "AirPlay" technology further. I can't see them pushing it without having the iPhone playing along. So, if not with 4.2, then later on.

If you have 6fl (iPod / iPhone) adapter you can play through the radio and view on the Nav screen. If you have 6nf (SmartPhone) then by definition you MUST have 6fl. With these 2 options (and premium package) you can get a phone specific cradle to mount in the car. If you use the cradle (snap in) then your phoner connects bluetooth but the signal goes through the side mount antenna and it charges. You also get your music thtough the rasdio and the music library etc. on the Nav screen (using the 6fl connection).
