...and I don't mean the sissy metal crap that's on the radio or Metallica. I'm talking about REAL metal from record labels like Century Media, Relapse, Metal Blade, Earache, Spinefarm, etc.

Step up and be recognized! \\m/

Now playing:

Nightwish - Century Child

Decapitated - Nihility

Devin Townsend - Terria

Misery Index - Overthrow

Iron Maiden - Rock In Rio

Opeth - Still Life & Blackwater Park

Vomitory - Blood Rapture

Anyone have the new Manowar!?!

Bloodcum ownz your poseury ass. And not those sh!theads from the netherlands. I'm talking OG from LA Bloodcum's 6 song EP released in '87 on Wild Rags records.

Celtic Frost's To Mega Therion from '85 owns your punkass too.

I like stuff like Symphony X, After Forever, Dream Theater, etc. I think After Forever is a Century Media band.

RAD! I didn't know anyone else knew about Stryper!! Awesome band for sure! Have you heard of Hardline? They only made one album, but it's insane!

Hmm. I'm not really into that Napalm Death - esque kinda stuff, but whatever floats your boat.

Just an interesting tidbit: A guitar player (maybe bass) for Misery Index is a member of AI. I'm not a fan, but I do find it somewhat interesting that he's a member. He's into graphics, and his web site is pretty slick.

So what do I like? Girly metal for sure. It needs to be multi-layered with a lot of themes and licks, etc. So I DO like Metallica, (well most of it aside from Black Album), along with Dream Theater, and even Mercyful Fate, though that whole Satan thing irks me a bit. I like other bands that fit the described mold as well. You figure them out.

    Jason perhaps!?

We both play in Misery Index together (I'm MIke Harrison - the guitarist & vocalist) Jason plays bass. What's AI? I'm not a member of such a organization but Jason may be. Was it Demockery.org or Unkindesign.com? Unkindesign.com is my web site.

I suggest everything by Devin Townsend and the last three Opeth albums. You should also check out Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Samael and The Gathering.

And for all you shredders out there...YNGWIE MALMSTEEN!!!!

Um, AI = AppleInsider. The person must be you.

On a side note, Yngwie can shred indeed. Go-go-go. Lately I have been beyond-impressed with this 8 minute long solo from John Petrucci of Dream Theater. That track made me think about listening to other stuff from them. As for the solo, Good golly miss molly. Dare I say faster than Yngwie?

Yeah, Slayer kills. But only everything before Seasons. The last three CDs were below par.

    All i can say is:

    Dr. Bewkenheimer.

(BTW - the "faster than Yngwie" comment hooked me. I remember a guy from the 80's who was definitely faster than Yngwie but his solos were so full of harmonic clams and guitar masturbation that even his speed couldn't save him. A certain Chris Impelliteri. Check out his "OVer ther Rainbow" cover - total, utter garbage.)

Yngwie is good..I do have his live guitar solo on here.

But personally I think Joe Satriani is a lot better than him.

Divine Intervention wasn't too bad. Paul Bostaph seemed to be a little more creative on the drums when he played with Forbidden, tho.

    Shameless, shameless plug.

Kinda like some years back, Guitar magazine (IIRC) polled a bunch of people on the best metal albums of all time. Hanneman and King both had "Reign in Blood" on their top 5. I think they both had it #1.

Don't forget Slayer's latest, God Hates Us All. And who could forget its horribly timed/ironic release date of 9/11.
