Getting a free replacement for my MacBook pro

I have a 15 inch MacBook pro. It recently was dropped. The result was a broken screen and a mangled metal shell. (all the internals work). We replaced the screen but the case looks pretty bad. The chords are visible and slowly it has turned more into a desktop because movement pulls out the wires.

Priors to this though, as on many other macs, the screen as it closes ,snaps shut with the magnets and creates cracks along the bottom. These cracks are very visible and I know apple holds itself responsible regardless of warranty since another Mac of mine had its case replaced.

My question is, how do I talk to apple so that they'll fix the case because of their problem. At first I was told that can't do anything because ofthe condition and any fixing would ruin the internals. I believe I'm entailed because that's their flaw that they recognize. They should have to do it regardless of warranty or condition as I did with my other Mac.

Any advice??!!

You dropped it. The warranty is instantly void.

What's this "regardless of warranty" stuff? Link to the documents that say this.

No, they don't owe you anything.

The damage (99% of it?) is YOUR fault... yet you expect someone else to fix it for you for free??? Grow a pair! I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you voted for Obama

I expect them to do it because thy said they would. They just didn't, because they didn't have the right tools. They said if they'd do it they'd make it worse. They didn't even offer to send it in. They know they have a flaw. And they honor that. All I know is that apple always treats their customers to the highest level. Just a year ago, they gave me a 100$ give certificate because my 10 year old iMac wasn't working fast and the battery didn't work. They gave m dad a free g5 because the coolant leaked 3 years out of warranty.

I know there's a way and I know it sounds stupid but someones gonna give in.

Ps I would never vote for Obama. If I did, I'd be calling the government for my repair.

So you KNOW you don't deserve a free fix, but you want one anyway. In fact, it seems you EXPECT to get a free fix even though you know you aren't entitled to it.

As an AAPL shareholder... well... I'm not really supposed to type what I'm thinking about you on this "family safe" forum.

Obviously I'm not entailed to a complete fix. I'm entailed to A free shell. Thats all I want. Don't tell me that you're unequipped with the proper tools and therefore I'm stuck. Go send it off to A plant where they can fix it.

Ps. I'm a dieheart apple fan. Have been and will be regardless. Ironically I've been posting from my iPhone 4

But there's more buggered up than just the shell... they can't fix it with just a new shell. You said yourself there are loose wires and such, indicating that there is some internal damage... putting a "new shell" on your computer wouldn't fix it... your problems go deeper than what you (and Apple?) view as the recall/warrant repair that you "deserve".

Sounds like if your only problem was the cosmetic issue with the case, they would fix it... but they're not going to go in and fix the damage YOU caused as well... and they shouldn't.

YOU screwed up and dropped your computer, and now you want it repaired for FREE. Even my 7-year-old doesn't act THAT childish!

I know that... I've dropped my own share of electronics... damaged my PowerBook enough that it became a desk-top... but I certainly didn't expect Apple to fix it for free! (and didn't even try to con them into doing it.)

The little boy simply needs to man-up and realize no one else is obligated to repair his damage for him.

They won't do anything on it since the warranty is already void. In the first place, you are the reason why it was broke, So they really wont help you. Unless you tell them to do your unit and you'll pay for all the expenses needed. If that's the case, that I suggest you to just buy a new one and be careful with it next time. At least you will have a new unit + a warranty.

I think you're confusing the Apple Store trying to help out of goodwill with Apple accepting responsibility.  Apple wouldn't accept responsibility for damage caused by a user dropping a machine.  If they tried to fix it out of goodwill but were unable to finish the job locally, then be grateful for what you've got, the rest is on you to either pay for the rest of the repair with Apple, or a third party repair shop.

EDIT: Why do people bump old topics and make me think they're new?
