MLB Fan Strike - July 11
http://www.mlbfanstrike.com/
The idea is that no one watches the games, goes to the games, or listens to the games at all on July 11.
The idea is that baseball will get a 'taste' of what fans will do if the players do strike, and that is not go to any more games because people won't care about the game.
Since fans are the ones that really 'pay' for the players salaries and give the owners their money, than this should at least open their eyes.
I don't expect tons of people to listen or participate in this, but if it helps open the eyes of the players and owners, I'm for it.

Professional baseball sucks.
Well, I know that in most parts of the country, baseball isn't #1. But I do love baseball, and I even go to my local minor league team's games a few times a week.
For some, it's boring, but for others, it's fun to watch. I happen to love watching the games, but at the same time, refuse to support MLB if all they are going to do is continue gouging us at the ballpark and going on strike every few years. It's ridiculous.
If you go to the site I mention, look how much it costs the average family in Boston to go to a game. Those aren't even the good seats!
It's one of the reasons why Independent baseball is so fun to watch too- cheap ticket prices, excellent seats (3 times now I've been able to get front row, behind home plate seats for my family for under $20 total with food), and it's totally unpredictable.
I generally watch the Nashua Pride ( http://www.nashuapride.com ) who play in the Atlantic League ( http://www.atlanticleague.com ). If MLB took baseball as seriously as these guys, maybe they'd actually be doing well.

I've seen too many major leaguers simply "half-assing" it over the past several years, probably because they're not about to risk an injury that will derail their ridiculous salary.
OCCASIONALLY, I'll watch a major league game on TV, if it involves a team or a player I happen to enjoy watching (Randy Johnson immediately comes to mind).
I'll gladly participate in the July 11 thing. I mean, I kinda already do anyway, but I'll make it official!
That said, I will gladly contribute to the anti-MLB July 11 strike. Not only that, I am taking this grass roots campaign a step further by not watching all summer, instead focusing on the coming NHL season opener / trade talks. Much more exciting than regular season baseball....
I certainly would never pay to sit in a stadium at one of the games. I'd much rather throw some business to my favorite watering hole than get ass raped on pro tickets. Soccer in NA sucks, so the one sport that I'd pay to see, I don't get to see.
Baseball is a sport designed for radio anyway.
The 'strike' is set for Thursday. Show the players and owners that the FANS mean business.

Sounds like this could only be slightly more effective than the "don't buy gas next Tuesday" campaigns during the last few price runups. At least with baseball, you can't buy a ticket later for the game you didn't go to.

I'm also not optimistic that this will have an effect . But baseball is a leisure activity. There are other things you can do with your time and money. Those gas campaigns are ridiculous.
Kill two birds with one stone!
I guess so. But isn't that true of all four major pro sports now?

true to some degree, but more so in baseball me thinks.
Wow, I've been on de-factro MLB fan strike for the last 2-3 years.
Professional baseball sucks.

What's professional baseball? Is it anything like hockey?
BTW, the Stars (I regret to admit) are going to stomp the ever-living shite out of some teams next season. Beteween them, Colorado and Detroit the Western Conference playoffs should be a blast. Sadly, the NHL CBA is set to expire in a couple years and might also lead to a strike. Egads man, is nothing sacred??

Judging by the number of fans who tune in to each sport, no they are not too alike.
