imac vs macbook pro preformance

I have a macbook pro with a 2.66 ghz core 2 duo, 8gb ram, and 9600m gt...



thinking about buying the new 27" apple display...but then thought I could get 27" imac instead.



The imac is a 2.93 i7, 8gb ram, and radeon 5750.



Will the new imac run significantly faster or will it be about the same as on the macbook?



I do alot of development in xcode, 3d modeling in modo, photoshop, etc...



Thanks for any advice...

iMac's faster, hands down. And you can use it as a display once it's "too old".
