You know, if this was ANYONE else at the center of this, I MIGHT be inclined to spare a little more interest/belief.
But when the most pathetic, clownish and irrelevant performer in pop is paired with the most shit-stirring, publicity-whoring loudmouth in politics, it's just not a good thing. I can't think of two WORST possible figureheads or spokespeople than Jackson and Sharpton for this little "movement".
Read that last paragraph in that CNN article. Jackson seems about half off his rocker. Or, at the very least, simply childish and idiotic.
It's not our fault he's an overrated has-been and makes lame music. Maybe if he put more thought, effort and energy into writing GOOD songs and really caring about the MUSIC as much as he does being "famous" and all, he might actually sell an album or two.

Don't get me wrong - I liked some of Jackson's music, but it really is unnerving to see him looking so white!
As for album sales and musical developmwent - I'm with pscates on this one.

Does Mr. Jackson forget that he practically owned the universe 15 years ago? There was a time when he could do no wrong and that everything he did, said or touched was gold.
He made millions on top of millions, contributed to pop culture on a level that only Elvis and The Beatles had, was adored by millions of fans worldwide, of every race, color, religion, gender, etc.
He is a complete idiot if he believes that there is some big "racist conspiracy".

This man has been blessed since childhood, probably greater than everyone of us here at AI 10 times over.
It's less a "racist conspiracy" than simple changing tastes AND his own quirky behavior and personality. Whether accurate or perceived, fact is a large chunk of the world sees him as a tad unbalanced and in the same sad league of celebrities like Liz Taylor and Fat Elvis: people who once held the world in their hands, and then for any number of reasons fell from those mighty, lofty perches.
Most people can't shake the feeling that Jackson is a weirdo. That he's an asexual, "never grew up". Add to that the ****ing monkey and llama and all that entails.

Two days after my little initial post here. Wow, I should've written this. This guy is right on:

I remember reading several months ago where he took out a loan from Sony to buy - get this - a WATCH. A really expensive, totally unnecessary jeweled thing, when he could've gone to Target and bought a $24.95 Timex like most normal people do.
I do like the author's suggestions. They echo mine. Jackson, if he EVER hopes to reclaim a shred of his former status and popularity, has to knock it off with the eccentric Peter Pan horsecrap and project a more human, NORMAL (and likable) image.
Except for a very small and somewhat sad group of diehards, I'd venture to say that most people don't see Jackson in a favorable, positive light...for all the reasons mentioned in this article, as well as the ones I've mentioned in other posts in this thread.

Yes, the image of this freak running around Harlem (with skin whiter than mine...believe me, THAT'S an accomplishment!) crying "racism" and how he's been put upon by The Man.
I honestly believe Jackson would do anything and everything for publicity, sad, desperate freak that he is.
So here goes:
Within 2 months (probably more like 2 days), the "King of Pap" will be admitted (a la Mariah Carey and Billy Joel) into some swanky hospital or rehab for "exhaustion" (or fill in the blank with your favorite PR euphemism that sidesteps the truth of "publicity whore").
Now, when most people fall apart and break down or whatever, it's considered a private matter, not to be trumpeted. Only celebrities look at being dragged off in a net for "relaxation" as a positive thing, or "good publicity".
Now Jackson, being who and what he is, will top Carey and everyone else in the dramatics and theatrics of it.
He'll stage a press conference and possibly fake a collapse. Or - if we're lucky - he'll hop up on the podium and start pulling his hair out and speaking backwards.
Point is, desperate publicity-starved whackjob that he is, we're not going to get out of this summer without being treated to a "JACKO GOES WACKO...and is admitted to $12,000 a day treatment facility!!!".
You know it. I know it. We all know it.
And when it happens, you can all come back to this thread and go "you know, pscates seems to possess pretty keen insight to celebrity and pop culture...I may not agree with his politics or musical tastes, but he knows what's up!"
