Well, it's OBVIOUS that The Man has held him down for so long...

Idiot.

<a href="http://www.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/Music/07/06/jackson.recording.industry.ap/index.html"; target="_blank">http://www.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/Music/07/06/jackson.recording.industry.ap/index.html</a>;

You know, if this was ANYONE else at the center of this, I MIGHT be inclined to spare a little more interest/belief.

But when the most pathetic, clownish and irrelevant performer in pop is paired with the most shit-stirring, publicity-whoring loudmouth in politics, it's just not a good thing. I can't think of two WORST possible figureheads or spokespeople than Jackson and Sharpton for this little "movement".

Read that last paragraph in that CNN article. Jackson seems about half off his rocker. Or, at the very least, simply childish and idiotic.

It's not our fault he's an overrated has-been and makes lame music. Maybe if he put more thought, effort and energy into writing GOOD songs and really caring about the MUSIC as much as he does being "famous" and all, he might actually sell an album or two.

Michael, maybe you're just a weirdo who has lost touch. Maybe you're a Johnny One-Note and shot your wad two decades ago with "Thriller". That seems to be the consensus.

I like how he seems to be blaming everyone except himself for his stalled career and has-been status.

Something tells me that Sony could've poured $200 million dollars into marketing his last stupid album (and yes, I heard it...out of morbid curiosity, I just had to!), people STILL wouldn't care because he's a bit of a hack and a cheeseball who seems stuck in 1989 and hasn't really moved on, has he?

Just my opinion. But, of course, I'm right.

wow, your venom is really ugly.

I didn't even bother looking at what your posting . . . by the way .. . it probably has something to do with a race issue . . and probably with sharpton.

It just seems strange to me that you always get sooo vehemently, insultingly, venomous whenever some trifle about race comes along.... or you get a chance to spit at Sharpton . . . I mean sure he is an opportunist and a camera hog... as well as food hog apparently . . .

but your constant hostility seems to speak more than your words...

Give it a rest. It's about Michael Jackson AND Al Sharpton.

The same way I've written about John Travolta, Rush Limbaugh, Kid Rock, Pam Anderson, Tommy Lee Jones, President Bush, Bill Clinton, Andy Dick or any other number of celebrities/public figures that do silly things or annoy me. Check the archives, slick.

Jackson and Sharpton's skin color have less to do with it than you seem to want to believe.

If this was Billy Idol and Bob Dornan (white counterparts to Jackson and Sharpton in their musical irrelevancy and inflammatory rhetoric, respectively), I'd make the same exact post and still point it out.

Is it my fault it's Michael Jackson and Al Sharpton? Really?

    No it isn't.

Gee, sorry that I find some multi-gazillionaire whining and someone famous for stirring the pot a bit tiresome (although amusing)...

Forgive me, pfflam. I'll try to get by, knowing you didn't give my post your full attention...

By the way, Al Sharpton is such an upstanding, beyond-reproach individual, isn't he?

I mean, HOW DARE ANYONE poke at him or cast him in a bad light, right?

    Jeez, WHAT was I thinking...

    He's practically a prophet AND a saint!

"The Good, The Bad and The Ugly"

How about "The Original, The Unusual and the Maccabre?"

Don't get me wrong - I liked some of Jackson's music, but it really is unnerving to see him looking so white!

As for album sales and musical developmwent - I'm with pscates on this one.

I agree with Scates. Diana Ros...I mean Michael Jackson is a sick fvck - especially if he thinks his lack of recent success is some kind of racist conspiracy. Although, it's hard to top giving yourself 18 face-jobs and oxidizing your skin to the point of Albino-ness. Sometimes the word "freak" is less an insult than a truly accurate description.

He deserves whatever verbal abuse he gets IMO. More than brings it upon himself. Practically begs for it...wouldn't be at all surprised if he liked it / the attention. I hear Tito wasn't a very nice brother.

    Yeah, exactly.

Does Mr. Jackson forget that he practically owned the universe 15 years ago? There was a time when he could do no wrong and that everything he did, said or touched was gold.

He made millions on top of millions, contributed to pop culture on a level that only Elvis and The Beatles had, was adored by millions of fans worldwide, of every race, color, religion, gender, etc.

He is a complete idiot if he believes that there is some big "racist conspiracy".

A big ugly "racist conspiracy" would not have showered him with the good fortune, riches and attention that came his way all those years ago.

This man has been blessed since childhood, probably greater than everyone of us here at AI 10 times over.

It's less a "racist conspiracy" than simple changing tastes AND his own quirky behavior and personality. Whether accurate or perceived, fact is a large chunk of the world sees him as a tad unbalanced and in the same sad league of celebrities like Liz Taylor and Fat Elvis: people who once held the world in their hands, and then for any number of reasons fell from those mighty, lofty perches.

Most people can't shake the feeling that Jackson is a weirdo. That he's an asexual, "never grew up". Add to that the ****ing monkey and llama and all that entails.

Oh yeah, that whole child molesting thing from a few years ago probably doesn't help either, does it? People tend not to have very warm, fuzzy feelings for kid diddlers, REGARDLESS of their skin color.

Do you think Paul Reubens, Paula Poundstone and Joey Buttafucco are held in some kind of wonderful, high esteem by the public? No...

He's a person who has, over the years, simply become famous by, of all things, "being famous".

Think about it: what was his last significant musical contribution? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Well, it appears as if good ol' Al S. is no longer by Jackson's side. According to CNN anyway.

Two days after my little initial post here. Wow, I should've written this. This guy is right on:

    <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,57143,00.html"; target="_blank">http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,57143,00.html</a>;

Nobody got Michael into his "current situation" other than Michael - OR those supposedly working for/with him.

I remember reading several months ago where he took out a loan from Sony to buy - get this - a WATCH. A really expensive, totally unnecessary jeweled thing, when he could've gone to Target and bought a $24.95 Timex like most normal people do.

I do like the author's suggestions. They echo mine. Jackson, if he EVER hopes to reclaim a shred of his former status and popularity, has to knock it off with the eccentric Peter Pan horsecrap and project a more human, NORMAL (and likable) image.

Except for a very small and somewhat sad group of diehards, I'd venture to say that most people don't see Jackson in a favorable, positive light...for all the reasons mentioned in this article, as well as the ones I've mentioned in other posts in this thread.

In other words, NOBODY is buying his nonsense, and he's only making himself look more loony and unsympathetic with each ill-advised step he takes.

Yes, the image of this freak running around Harlem (with skin whiter than mine...believe me, THAT'S an accomplishment!) crying "racism" and how he's been put upon by The Man.

Oh yeah, one more thing: a prediction.

I honestly believe Jackson would do anything and everything for publicity, sad, desperate freak that he is.

    So here goes:

Within 2 months (probably more like 2 days), the "King of Pap" will be admitted (a la Mariah Carey and Billy Joel) into some swanky hospital or rehab for "exhaustion" (or fill in the blank with your favorite PR euphemism that sidesteps the truth of "publicity whore").

Now, when most people fall apart and break down or whatever, it's considered a private matter, not to be trumpeted. Only celebrities look at being dragged off in a net for "relaxation" as a positive thing, or "good publicity".

Now Jackson, being who and what he is, will top Carey and everyone else in the dramatics and theatrics of it.

He'll stage a press conference and possibly fake a collapse. Or - if we're lucky - he'll hop up on the podium and start pulling his hair out and speaking backwards.

Point is, desperate publicity-starved whackjob that he is, we're not going to get out of this summer without being treated to a "JACKO GOES WACKO...and is admitted to $12,000 a day treatment facility!!!".

You know it. I know it. We all know it.

And when it happens, you can all come back to this thread and go "you know, pscates seems to possess pretty keen insight to celebrity and pop culture...I may not agree with his politics or musical tastes, but he knows what's up!"

It looks to me like you are trying to smear the King of Pap.
