Time Machine won't quit

Time Machine doesn't stop and will run until I stop it manually. For example: SuperDuper backed up in 14:17 minutes; on the same external partitioned HDD, Time Machine has backed less than half and isn't making progress. It seems stuck at that point although there is plenty of space available



Any suggestion will be appreciated.



Update: I added something on the computer and Time Machine suddenly picked up the pace, finished the previous BU, then the new in seconds. It took 47 minutes to BU what SD did in 14:17 minutes. What can I do to fix this.

    Forget my previous question. Time Machine is backing up in a few minutes now. I have no idea what caused the problem or what fixed it.
