Average wait after processor release

Sorry to add fuel to the MBP 2011 release speculation, but after reading all the threads I could find, I had one question which didn't seem to be covered.

I've gatherd that Sandy Bridge is due to be released Jan 5, and that big processor releases often prompt Mac updates. Does anyone know the average wait between the official intel/processor release and the appearance in Mac hardware in previous cases like this?

Cheers

    Um, none.

Some Macs get processor exclusivity. Some wait a year or more. We can't tell. Follow the Buyer's Guide on MacRumors for a fairly accurate estimate.

Or just assume two updates a year. Simple.

The 2nd last update if I recall correctly took a while but the last update came the same month of release. The MBP is due a refresh ASAP otherwise it will be the longest MBP refresh gap in the company history and there would be no reason for that to happen.

A lot of the time you will see quite vague, non-committal projections like here on AI:

"Redesigned MacBook Pro, iMac may come in first half of 2011"

but I would suggest January or February are very likely to have an update.

Tallest Skill has this right on the money, you can't always tell from Intels release schedule even though the laptops have followed closely on some intel releases. Just look at things like the Mac Pro that have had extremely drawn out release schedules that where far removed from Intel updates.

Laptops of course are another thing but don't fool yourself. Apple releases products when they are ready and often that doesn't jive with Intels schedule. Besides Apple could always target the iMacs for the first round of updates.

Why iMacs, well because of the lower volume allowing them to ride Intels ramp up of production. Besides Sandy Bridge is an ideal processor for iMacs. But in the end we really don't know, Apple generally has something ready to release at the beginning of the year so expect something in Jan. or Feb.
