I kinda miss when he wrote and sang about moonshiners, guns, cars, small towns, touring, having a couple of beers, falling in love, falling out of love, story songs, etc.

Sometimes I think some people do things JUST to stir the pot and kick up a little controversy. Earle isn't new to it, of course (check his bio/history if you're not a fan), but this is going to hurt him.
Not that he cares, of course. "Maverick" and "artist" that he is...
