Oh the translations!
The idea of this thread is to take some kind of famous or otherwise noteworthy text or saying and translate it to some language and then back to english and see what comes out.
These Woody Allen quotes are being translated from English to Italian and Back:
orginal:
I'm not afraid to die, I just don't want to be there when it happens.
butchered:
They are not frightened to die, I hardly I do not wish to be here when it happens.
original:
Capital punishment would be more effective as a preventive measure if it were administered prior to the crime.
butchered:
The punishment understood them would be more effective like preventive measure if it were trained before the crime.
original:
If only God would give me some clear sign! Like making a large deposit in my name at a Swiss bank.
butchered:
If only the God gave some free companies to me! Like making a great warehouse in my name to one Swiss bank.

A couple of times some friends ... only english speaking ones have written to me in italian using the translators.. it gives really a headache!!
i once tried to do the same... some 30 times italian/english/italian/whatever/whatever...
it was a real bad headache!!!
