The treatment of Donovan McNabb vs Michael Vick by some Eagles fans
Throughout Donovan McNabb's entire career he's been criticized for not being able to win the big game, for choking under pressure, for throwing his teammates under the bus and not putting any blame on himself, for being a so-called "uncle tom", for not being black enough and for being a "Company" Man. He's also been criticized for not having the necessary tools to be an elite quarterback, meaning, no touch on his throws, not using his running ability, being too fat and being unable to think quickly during the game.
Michael Vick during his career pre-dog-fighting charges and conviction, had the reputation of being "Street", from the poor side, but with a god-given talent unheard of in the NFL, He could throw the ball, but during games would rely more on his ability to run around his opponents and make plays with his feet.
Fast Forward to 2010:
When Vick took over the QB job for the Eagles, everyone in the country was amazed at his transformation into an MVP worthy player, a complete Quarterback, something Eagles fans had not seen in the last 12+ years.
Fast Forward now to the divisional playoffs:
The Eagles lose. Vick's last throw is an interception in the endzone. Vick takes responsibility for the mis-play. In the eyes of fans, he manned-up to his mistakes.
What would McNabb's comment been? Would he have given a "Company Man" answer? Maybe. But, the fact is, in both cases the Eagles lost. No second round. No chance to go to the Superbowl. No chance to WIN a Superbowl this year.
So WHY were the fans more forgiving of Vick than they would be for McNabb?
Vick didn't prevent the other team's offense to run up and down the field and score points.
Vick didn't miss field goals.
Why were these fans more acceptable to Vick's failure to win the game?
Fans who in other years accepted NO EXCUSE for losing regardless of HOW they lost.
And by the way, Donovan McNabb no longer plays for the Philadelphia Eagles. For fans who couldn't wait to see someone get removed from a team, they sure can't stop talking about him.

Simple answer: It's Vick's first year. We haven't seen this from Vick year in and year out. In fact, we weren't even supposed to be a playoff team. Vick made us one. Most fans I've heard are more concerned about Reid's failure to address the offensive line, not to mention the now porous defense. Vick made a bad throw. He admitted it. Now, if it happens a few more years in a row, you will see a different tune being sung. That's how Philly fans are.
