I just remembered how much I loved the style of drawing of Milo Manara <a href="http://www.milomanara.com"; target="_blank">www.milomanara.com</a>

I had almost all his works, both for their eroticisicm but just the way he draws is so simple yet great. Does anyone know of any other artists in that genre who draw/paint that way (not necesarily erotic)?

I also love Monet/Manet and that genre of impressionism.

What kind of art do you like? Artists?

Oh yeah, I also remembered the various paintings and drawing Larry Elmore and Elfman(?) draw/drew for all the various Dungeons and Dragons material. Incredible stuff

My favorite painting is The Arnolfini Wedding by Jan van Eyck. I've always been a big fan of the Northern Renaissance.

My favorites are Andy Warhol, Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray. About once a year I call in sick to work on a mid week day, get a little buzzed and head over to MOMA. Always a good way to kill an afternoon if there's not too many tourists.

I'm impressed, 'rat. That's probably one of my favorite paintings of the time. I had to do a 10 page analysis of it for art history some years back... but I must say, very nice pick indeed. You impress me...

Of course Escher is on the list, and Edvard Munch, Picasso. But I think my favorite is <a href="http://hebuss.free.fr/"; target="_blank">Boris Vallejo</a>. Just awesome work.

grover - i am tempted to mention that i took a class specifically covering the northern renaissance, but i'm afraid you could still probably wipe the floor with me, as i just didn't find it as interesting as i thought I would, and consequently didn't pay a whole lot of attention. I can appreciate the incredible complexity and attention to detail evident in the works of van eyck, et al though.

personally i can't really pick a favorite, but I am usually drawn to modern artists; Robert Delaunay, Sally Mann, David Carson, and Piet Mondrian come to mind right now.

Bleh, sorry but what an unoriginal hack. Don't get me wrong, he can paint...but his subject matter is lame and trite compared to others (Hildebrandt Bros, Richard Corben and Bisley)....

Oh, and ZO...Milo Manara is an amazing artist...but hope the mods here don't click that link...

I don't know much about traditional art/painters/styles, but an illustrator who I really admire and get inspiration from (the reason I gravitated toward Adobe Illustrator) is <a href="http://www.ronchan.com"; target="_blank">Ron Chan</a>.

You've seen his stuff in Macworld magazine, and for lots of other companies: tech, financial, etc.

He's digital (Illustrator on a Mac). Does that count?

Certainly does. He's great. Clean design and a rich color palette. He's also the most copied artist/designer in the field.

    Heard of <a href="http://www.ledpants.com/"; target="_blank">Mr. LEDPants</a>?

Like his digital work a lot. A little more edgy but very good clean work.

GaudÃ* was an architect - a profession most people don't associate with as producing true art, but he certainly did. Some of his stuff is amazing. Problem is you have to go to Barcelona (or Italy it seems) to see it up close. Anyone got a free plane ticket for me?

No, I hadn't...but thanks for the "head's up". I LOVE his style too. More geometric and cartoony than Chan's, but just as enjoyable and nice to look at.

Thanks! Some of his stuff reminded me of when I draw things sometimes (simple shapes, angular faces/bodies, etc.).

    Definitely bookmarked that site!
