Best Free File Hosting Service/App??

Hello All,



Recent Mac/iOS convert from Windows/Linux/Android. Unnecessary to get into that just now, the point is, I have just purchased my first Mac - it hasn't even arrived yet - and am planning on converting the whole household before summer with iPhone 4's and iPad 2's to supplement the Mac mini server and two Apple TV's just purchased.



My first questions relates to file storage and iTunes:
  1. Both my wife and I have never had an iTunes account, and have traditionally shared media content on a central volume. Is there a way to access our currently mutual media libraries on our different iTunes accounts, or have one iTunes account that can be potentially accessed simultaneously from more than one iOS device - a "household" account per se?

  2. Using cloud storage options seems like the best way to handle file systems for files outside of the iTunes and photos realm on iOS devices, such as productivity iWork or Office files. I would rather not pay for these services, and certainly not the $100 asking price for iDisk/MobileMe, but could consider a more reasonable fee. Can anyone enlighten me as to some good file hosting solutions or Apps for iPhone/iPad that would enable me to host a majority of these files available anywhere I have a WiFi connection? For example, I would absolutely love to set up a solution to host these things myself on my Mac mini Server and just access with read/write priviledges on my iOS devices.

    Apple has some step-by-steps for music sharing:

    Having a single iTunes account is a good idea as you can share purchases between devices.

    That should let you connect to a local server and open files. The iOS devices has very limited file management built-in so you'd need to use a 3rd party solution like that.
