I am more or less a fan of him and I really do enjoy his music a lot, although it can get slightly violent some times.

Yep, he is a total weirdo but I think he is kinda cool rather than gross.

"I wanna grow upÂ*

I wanna be a big rock and roll starÂ*

I wanna grow up I wanna beÂ*

So no one ****s with meÂ*

I got the pencils in my pocket, try to put me downÂ*

Wanna go out, gotta get outÂ*

To the playground, gonna throw down at the playgroundÂ*

I wanna go outÂ*

Next mother****er gonna get my metalÂ*"

Lyrics are ok, the message oh well...

Don't think I am too much into this guy, I also like Rage Against the Machine.

Yeah I know I am kinda complicated... a libertarian who listens to fascist and socialist music... well, I tell you, certainly it is not their message!

I think the guy pushes a Satanic message. He plays to people who like to challenge conventional wisdom. There is nothing wrong with challenging conventional wisdom but the tactics of pure rebellion and disrespect and destruction being the thrust of his messages are sad to me and sad to humanity as a whole.

This sadness is something he prefers his cult following to stay in. He has the idea that it is beautiful to be sad. I will agree that being sad is part of humanity but this idea to get depressed and stay there and justify it is just not balanced or for that matter healthy.

I do not buy his product.

Another issue to address is the whole business of "Shock" that is sold to the public via all means of media.

I think it is a simple equation:

"action will result with a reaction"

Some out there are not ready to combat this assault.

    Wisdom and maturity are needed.

You missed a bit of the lyrics there

"I've got my lunchbox and I'm armed real well"

I read his autobiography and the story behind that song is metal lunchboxes being banned at his school because of playground fighting.

Manson is certainly a fascist and quite unabashed about it, also was eager to voice his preference for George Bush to win the 2000 election.

He's a genius of marketing, he created and used neagtive publicity to thrust himself into the limelight. Just think of how many kids never would have even heard of Marilyn Manson had not various middle american christian groups tried to ban him at every turn. They hate him, but they helped to make him a star. Of course he'll vehemently deny it, but that's part of the act too.

He's actually only slightly atypical, not much more impressive than any number of acts out there.

I always end up looking like some white-makeup goth freak, but here I go anyway...

That's not true at all, I don't think anyone understands more than him, and you definitely get that idea if you listen to his albums. But it does take a bit of listening and real attempts to figure out what the metaphors mean but once you do you see someone that really knows what he's talking about (especially re: religion).

I had the same idea going in, I remember listening to Smells Like Children after repeated requests that I do from my friends of the metal-head bent and it was total garbage (Trent Reznor was involved, so of course it was crap).

Then Antichrist Superstar came out in 1996 and I didn't listen to that until about late 1997 because I figured, "Meh, he just screams about bad stuff to get attention." and then I finally listened to it and it is one of the best hard rock albums of all time.

He understands what he's writing and most importantly what most people will think when he starts saying it.

    FShip:

As for him pushing a Satanic message... that's a statement that makes it quite glaringly clear you've probably never even heard a song.

It's humorous to see the idiots out protesting his shows because the only violent morons at a Manson show is the crowd that doesn't realize that it is the butt of his joke.

These self-mutitlating goth morons listen to a song like "Mister Superstar" and think it is anything but Manson saying, "Everyone that really and truly worships me is a total idiot."

I'm afraid your type would be sorely disappointed if they listened to it and gave it a tiny bit of though. Not nearly as "Satanic" as you thought.

(I consider hypocritical Christians to be Satanic, so maybe we just have different benchmarks.)

I think he's pretty lame. Just not my cup of tea at all.

This generation's KISS or Alice Cooper. Except 10-20 years from now, no one will know - or care - about him.

Along with Limp Korn and the whole brigade of 7-string, detuned dipshit rap/metal lamers.

The hand is approaching the thirteenth minute...enjoy if while you can, fellas. A fascinating career in package delivery and waste management awaits you.

i think he's much smarter than many of his detractors give him credit for. After the columbine shooting thing, he wrote a really excellent essay (i think it was in rolling stone) on the whole thing. i'm sure you can find it with google. As far as i'm concerned, i enjoy the music on both an intellectual (sort of) and headbanging level, and that's good enough for me.

I don't really have that much of an opinion of him..never really got "into" him.

It's too bad he has to use the whole "shock" thing to get noticed though. Why not let the music speak for itself..like TOOL does.

I'm not going to comment on Marilyn Manson...

But on the subject of Korn, you really should listen to Untouchables...its much different than the rest of their albums and a bit more mild I think.

Untouchables is a breath of fresh air after their last two total garbage records.
